HMHB has introduced a series of short films that lifts up women’s voices in different global contexts. These unique five-minute stories provide an up-close view into the lives of mothers during pregnancy and also show the commitment of community health workers who support them – all told in their own words. The films highlight both the challenges and the opportunities to improve micronutrient intake and the nutritional well-being of mothers globally.
Millions of pregnant women are at a high risk of malnutrition because safe and healthy food is unavailable or inaccessible to them. Moreover, due to inequity in their households and socio-cultural norms, these women put the needs of their families first and eat last and less nutritious food, often surviving on leftovers. While it may be difficult to address all their problems, nutrition interventions like prenatal micronutrient supplements can help improve their nutrition status and help their newborns thrive.
These films are an important component of the Consortium’s advocacy efforts towards improving maternal nutrition and accelerating the adoption of multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) during pregnancy.
