HMHB at the World Supplement Forum

21 June 2023 – HMHB Program Lead, Dr. Martin Mwangi highlighted the potential of multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) in improving the lives of mothers and babies worldwide at the first-ever World Supplement Forum organized by International Alliance of Dietary/Food Supplement Associations (IADSA) on 13 June 2023 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In the session titled, Bridging the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals’ gaps:  Challenges and Opportunities, his presentation highlighted the socio-economic impact of micronutrient deficiencies among pregnant women and positioned MMS as an evidence-based, safe, and cost-effective solution. Key points of his talk were published in an online news article by, Micronutrient deficiencies: the socio-economic case for supplementation in mothers in Nutra Ingredients Europe on 20 June 2023.

To celebrate IADSA’s 25th anniversary, the World Supplement Forum brought together leaders in the supplement sector who are committed to building healthier and more resilient societies. The aim of this Forum was to discuss how supplementation can accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. It was also an opportunity to provide a collaborative environment to share insights, gain fresh perspectives and build new initiatives along its four key themes – Accelerating global efforts towards healthier societies, Unlocking the potential of the supplement sector, Connecting government regulation and policy, and Leveraging global cooperation and partnership around a common vision. The meeting ended with a declaration to integrate supplementation in nutrition and health policy.
