HMHB at the 5th FANUS Conference

27 November 2023 – HMHB hosted a symposium, “Strengthening Women’s Nutrition: Efficacy, Safety, and Barriers to Scale-up of Antenatal Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS)” at the 5th Federation of African Nutrition Societies (FANUS) Conference in Dakar, Senegal, elevating maternal nutrition interventions in the African continent yet again.

In the session, held on 23 November, 12:30 to 1:30 pm, HMHB Program Lead, Dr. Martin Mwangi spotlighted MMS as an evidence-based, safe, and cost-effective intervention to strengthen women’s nutrition capturing the attention of the African nutrition community. Shawn Baker, Chief Program Officer at Helen Keller International, shared invaluable experience-based insights on advancing women’s nutrition in the region. The symposium resulted in the strong endorsement of MMS by the African Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) Movement Network, who expressed their enthusiastic support and commitment to advocating MMS to national governments as a top nutrition intervention.

The week-long conference, organized from 19 to 24 November 2023, focused on a multisectoral approach to fortify food systems and achieve sustainable nutrition targets in Africa. It served as a platform to foster collaboration and innovation, especially in addressing micronutrient malnutrition and food security. View the detailed program here
