Globally more than 240 million women of reproductive age in low- and middle-income countries are underweight, 613 million are anemic, and an estimated 450 million are stunted, a sign of chronic undernutrition.

In low- and middle-income countries, a high number of women are deficient in key micronutrients: 63% of women are vitamin D deficient, 41% are zinc-deficient, and 40% are iodine-deficient.
