HMHB’s Second Africa Meeting on Maternal Nutrition and MMS

11 September 2024 – The Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies (HMHB) Consortium, hosted by the  Micronutrient Forum (MNF), in collaboration with Kenya’s State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, Division of Nutrition and Dietetics Division) is organizing the 2nd Africa Maternal Nutrition and Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) Meeting. The theme of the meeting is #EmpowerHer: A Unified Path to MMS Success in Africa. 

The meeting will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from Wednesday, October 16 to Friday, October 18, 2024. It will be a face-to-face “invite-only” meeting focusing on exploring country scenarios of the ~16 countries invited. It will also feature expert panelists and speakers to discuss the adoption and scaling of MMS in the African region. The meeting will bring together over 100 leaders and key actors from across Africa responsible for planning, financing, and implementing MMS programs.

The main objective of this meeting is to bring together African countries to agree on and support maternal nutrition including MMS to improve maternal health and nutrition by engaging countries to:

  1. Assess country readiness for MMS adoption/ scale-up,
  2. Build multi-country consensus and alignment to galvanize the momentum,
  3. Form technical working groups and communities of practice to empower countries to drive their MMS agenda within the broader framework of improving maternal health and nutrition.
  4. Promote women’s empowerment, equity, and Inclusion in the implementation of policies and programs, ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into all aspects of (MMS) policy, advocacy, and implementation.

Countries will share information and exchange experiences and lessons learned on maternal nutrition and MMS policy, advocacy, and implementation.
